A Countdown, Jumping Through The Covid Hoops And New Prints
Hey everyone,
We made it, it’s Friday. The weekend is sparkling ahead :) I am in the last mad rush of things to do before going to Iceland on Monday. I could have started a small business in the time it’s taken me to work out what COVID tests I need and when and where and how, it’s a minefield. But, tests are booked, bags are mostly packed and I am pumped to get there.
Whats In The Bag
What to pack. I would love to be able to take paints and canvases, but I know the likelihood of me being able to use them is very unrealistic. This is the first trip I have been on where I haven’t taken some travel acrylic and watercolours, this time I am solely relying on my iPad for producing any kind of colour in my work. Wild ;) And of course, I am taking sketch pads and ink brush pens (let’s hope the ink cartridges don’t explode on the plane). Side note- I am aware my passport is looking a little worse for wear, even though it’s had the year off hehe.
I’ll be attempting to upload videos to my YouTube channel while I’m in Iceland, so hopefully, I’ll be able to share some of the trip with you next week. Otherwise, for sure the week after! I’ll be posting on Instagram if you are interested in seeing what we get up to.
Featured Artist Of The Week: David Mankin
I recently discovered David Mankin’s work from listening to a podcast called Art Juice, where he is interviewed on the 6th July 2021 about inspiration and process. I listened to this at just the right time as I was starting the process of my own new project and what David had to say was so helpful and interesting. To any other creatives out there, this is well worth listening to.
David is a contemporary abstract landscape artist from Cornwall. He mainly works in acrylic and mixed media, sometimes using things that he finds as he beachcombs, like old blackberry phone cases and wire. His work allows you to get a sense of the motion and perspective of his subject, focused on the feeling of the landscape rather than realism.
His book Remembering In Paint is all about his processes and where he finds his sources of inspiration, it’s beautifully written and has so much insight into how art can be created. Check out this video below where he talks about how his work is made, and for some stunning cornish scenery!
