The Colour Psychology Of Green
Happy Friday everyone,
You made it through the week, in style I’m sure. I hope it’s been a good one.
This week I have been experimenting with a new colour palette, different shades of greens. My favourite colour is green, I associate it with the forest and tasty vegetables. The colour psychology behind green is that it symbolizes the natural world and represents tranquility. But on the flip side, it’s also associated with jealousy in the phrase ‘green with envy’ and physical illness, ‘turning green.’ It’s all in the shades ;)
Acrylic Abstract Painting
I had so much fun doing this. When I started out I was preparing the canvas to be an oil painting, using some of the new techniques I had experimented with in the last few weeks. I used gesso primer and texture paste to create textures and then used sponges and the back of a paintbrush to make scratches and markings. My plan was to do an undercoat of acrylic and explore this new colour palette then paint on top in oils, but once the acrylic dried it looked so interesting I didn’t want to cover it up. I still haven’t decided if it’s a good or bad interesting, it’s murky in some places and the textures have a grunge effect, but something about the colour combination and the effect the paint drips made me want to keep it and pull some ideas out of it. I would love to hear your opinions on it, fire them at me if you have any thoughts. Art is subjective after all :)
Video Of The Week: Jim Carey: I Needed Color
Jim Carrey is such a fascinating guy, he can make us all laugh hysterically in Bruce Almighty then move us to tears in Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. At a difficult point in his life when he was going through a heartbreak, he discovered painting and the power and freedom in colour. If you fancy an interesting watch and you’ve got 6 minutes to spare, check it out.
