Hello February
Finding focus in the flowers
Hey friend,
Did January just vanish, or is it just me? That month went by in a blink. I hope you had a positive start to the year and February is treating you well. I took January off from newsletters to slowly and thoughtfully plan for 2026. In previous years, I would go into the new year all guns blazing, making plans and actioning them yesterday.
But this year, that didn't feel right. You know those people who take their time to consider and let plans evolve naturally and slowly? Yeah, that's never been me ;) But this year, I decided to take a leaf out of their book, and I have to say, it was a nice change of pace.
The Print Design Era
Between nursery runs, snack negotiations, and the beautiful chaos of raising small humans, I realised I need focus. Not “spin ten plates and answer emails with one eye open” focus. Real focus.
So for the first part of this year, I’m entering my Print Design & Illustration Era.
My fine art originals and prints are still very much alive and available on my website, but creatively, I’ll be pouring my energy into new print designs, illustrations, and exploring licensing opportunities.
Think: notebooks, postcards, botanical prints, beautiful fabrics, homeware… the whole joyful, pattern-filled world. I’ll be sharing snippets of the process, from scrappy sketchbook beginnings to fully formed repeating designs out in the wild, living their best lives.
It’s such a fun, slightly nerdy (in the best way) process and I can’t wait to show you more. Especially as we inch toward spring. (Rain, you’ve had your moment. That’s enough now.)
On that note, here’s a 60 second snippet of my Tuesday this week, when I dug out my flower press to paint the flowers and plants I gathered and pressed last summer for this very month when I had a feeling I would feel a little blue from the constant grey and the lack of wild flowers (thanking my past self for doing this and making a mental note to do it again this year!)
Feathers & Flowers
Theres a beautiful old canal that runs by my house, it’s the kind of place that people kayak and narrow boats dock all year around next to a big lock. In the summer it’s full of wild flowers and plants.
Last January, I took a walk down there on a pretty bleak winter’s afternoon, but I was struck by how the wildflowers and plants still hold so much beauty in the winter. It wouldn’t be long before all the dead and dried plants would be making way for the new life sprouting up everywhere with Spring coming.
That day, I started a series of 12 Illustrations for each month celebrating the plants and flowers that grow in that time. They are being made into wall art, repeat patterns for wallpaper and when all 12 are completed, a calendar that you could, if you so wished, hang in your very own house :)
