Intro to Iceland 2.0, Inking on YouTube and the Ring Road

Introducing my new Iceland project

Hello and happy August,

If you were part of my old newsletter, it’s great to see you again. It’s been a while. I went travelling to live in Lisbon for a bit, then Covid descended upon us all which brought that to an abrupt end, and it all completely threw my art world up in the air. So I apologise for my silence but I am back with new projects, hatching new plans, and lots of new work to share with you.

If you are new to my newsletter, welcome it’s great to have you.

Iceland Project 2.0

I have some really exciting plans and wanted to share them with you. After going to Iceland in 2015 and seeing ice glaciers, the northern lights, and mountain ranges as far as the eye can see, I have been waiting for the right time to go back.

I am happy to say that time has come and on September 27th I am flying back to the land of ice to explore the north of the island and fill up on new inspiration and ideas for a new exhibition.

I’ll be sharing videos and blogs of my processes from start to finish, from experimenting with materials, finding colour palettes, textures, the trip itself, and creating the work when I get back.

I would love to bring you along on the journey. I can promise an insight into my processes, a lot of mistakes, trials, and errors, hopefully, some wins and at the end an exhibition of new work. I am literally working this all out as I go so it should be fun ;)

Here’s my first video.

I have kick-started my project by experimenting with ink brush pens to use on location to draw mountain ranges.

What I’ve Been Watching

Here’s a photographer, Allan Su, I have been following this week. His trip on the Ring Road in Iceland has given us so many ideas of where we want to go. The video footage he captured is ridiculous.

This is an original oil on canvas painting titled The Northern Lights. This painting was made with palette knives and brushes and is currently for sale. As this is an original there’s only one available. You can find out more information and buy it in my shop by clicking the button below.
