Hello and happy Wednesday,
A question I often get from clients buying artwork is how to choose the right piece for their space. Sometimes, a blank wall can glare intimidatingly and scream out to be filled, but we don’t have the brain space to work out what we want and how to go about doing it.
I would love to give you 4 easy steps for how to do this!
1. Your Space
How big is your wall space? Is it a big blank wall? A cozy nook under the stairs that’s a bit of an awkward triangle shape? All these things will have an option that suits them best.
Consider the size of your artwork. If you have a big blank space, you can go big! You could fill it with a big canvas that makes everyone say “ooooo” when they walk in the room. Another option is to have several smaller pieces in a grid or three in a row. This is very on-trend at the moment! Whichever you choose, leave some space around the artwork instead of crowding it. My rule is always to allow the artwork and the wall to be in balance and still breathe.

2. Colour Palette
What is your room's colour palette? Are you adding the final touches to the space with this artwork, or are you basing the colour choices around it? You could make it a statement or beautifully blend and enhance the balance that you have already created. Generally speaking, bold colours stand out and bring the wow factor and muted, softer tones work well to bring a room together.

3. Your Style
Artwork comes in so many different expressions. Do you prefer a traditional feel? Or would you like your space to feel modern? This one is very subjective, and you need to go with your gut and your own personal taste. This is a much bigger subject and I will write a post soon delving deeper into it!
4. How Do You Want To Feel?
Last but definitely not the least important, how do you want to feel in that room? A room has a purpose. Is this a room to relax or reflect? Maybe you want your artwork to bring something peaceful. Do you want it to evoke a memory or remind you to have gratitude for something? Maybe look for something that symbolises or reminds you of a specific place or time. You will be looking at it for a while, so take your time :)
I hope this helps and maybe gives you some food for thought if you are a bit lost for how to plan your space, I’m sure you will make it beautiful! I would love to see and hear how you got on, so send over some photos!
