Hello friend,
How goes it? This week I have a short but sweet message for you, I just wanted to share my surface pattern design portfolio!
A What Portfolio?
You might be thinking, what is surface pattern design, and why does it need a portfolio? Until a few years ago I also wondered this. In case you missed it way back in November, I did a course in surface pattern design earlier last year and, since then, have been beavering away creating collections of patterns with the view of trying to get into the art licensing world. This would mean that I could sell my designs on a short-term basis to companies who would then put these designs on products, from journals and gift wrapping to fabric for fashion and interiors. Any product you see that has artwork on it has been created by an artist and it’s most probably being licensed. It’s increasingly popular in the art world, and I’m just in the early stages of taking steps towards it.
Making a portfolio has been A LOT of work. One whole year of work to be exact ;) But I’m so glad I have finally finished five different collections and put them up on my website, ready to start reaching out to licensing companies. I would love to know your thoughts on them! Here are a few tasters below, but to see the whole portfolio, head to my website…
What To Name A Collection?
As you know, I am in the middle of creating of a botanical collection made with acrylic, watercolor, pencil and ink. Four of which are finished and for sale in my Etsy shop, five still in the making! But I am a little stuck for a name and I need your help, if you have any suggestions I’d love to hear them!
I hope you have a great week and thanks for reading,
Lydia x
